Review of Sendblaster Email marketing Software

At regular intervals I get a job that includes sending mailshots to a larger number of recipients.

One can of course send such by using a regular email program, but if you'd like to personalise the mailing it quickly ads to the workload, and gets quite messy to deal with. Should you e.g. like to start each mail with "Hi John" or whatever depending on the recipients given name, then it makes sense to look for software which is made for such task.

Linux Mint 9 Operating System - Replacement for Microsoft Windows

linux-mint-logo2You can now give your old PC a new life by installing a replacement for Microsoft Windows Xp or Vista.

For most people who simply surf the web, read the odd email, and access a document every now and then, Linux Mint should be catering for most needs.

Included in the installation you get plenty of free software. Amongst these Open Office for documents and spreadsheets, Firefox as your webbrowser, and Thunderbird as the email client.

You need at least 4GB of harddisk space, and a minimum of 256MB of system memory to run Linux Mint, so most pc's/Laptops from the last century should be able to meet these requirements. In addition need a CD-ROM drive or USB port for the installation, but again this is standard in most PC's from the last century.

Mp3tag Review

Mp3tag LogoMost people today use some sort of MP3 player be it an Ipod or similar while on the move, or otherwise Itunes or Windows Media Player to play your stuff while at home.

The problem I find is that while ripping your CD's the data such as artist names, track names, year, etc. is populated from the Gracenote cddb on the internet. This database however is populated by us users, and therefore consistancy of the data could be a problem. It could therefor elook quite silly iwhen a double album called "Greatest Hits" have the first album called "GREATEST HITS DISC 1" and where the second CD is called "Greatest Hits CD2". It might not be a huge difference, but when looking at it in Itunes etc. it looks quite unprofessional.I n addiiton there are plenty of other problems with spelling, missing/wrong data etc. With all of these annoying things messing up my user interfaces I decided to do some data cleaning on my MP3's metatags.

I therefore had a desperate need for a tool that could help me change such tags on an individual basis as well as on a number of MP3's in a batch.

So how did I go about sorting my problem?

Secunia Personal Software Inspector Review

SecuniaMost PC users today have over 50 different pieces of software installed on their computer.

Keeping all these applications up to date with all security patches and bug fixes is a massive task, but this piece of software can make the task manageable for most people.

When installed, Secunia runs a scan and thereafter inform you about any upgrades available to your installed software. You can then use their quick and easy wizards to update your software one by one, or you can do this manually by entering each application and use their own builtin software updater.

For novice users Secunia offer a "Simple" mode. Running this will advice you wrt. the majority of threats. If you however are extremely security focused, then go to advanced mode and follow the instructions there as well to ensure highest level of security.

Secunia will load at the startup and run in a minimized mode on your taskbar down in the right hand corner of your Windows PC. You can therefore access the program itself by doubleclicking the little red symbol. Anytime there are changes you will therefore see a little message appearing in your right hand bottom corner notifying you of changes.

Home users can download Secunia PSI for free from the Secunia website on: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/

Syncback Review

SyncbackI often need access to my files when away from home. Previously I used a great feature in XP called "offline folders" which enabled me such access by keeping a sync copy of my home server on the laptop.

I therefore got quite annoyed when my new laptop powered by Vista Home Premium didn't have this feature.

So, how did I go about solving this problem ?
